Personally known as “Annika”, Annika Sorenstam is a Swedish professional female golfer. Her achievements ranked her as the most victorious golfers.          She was born in Stockholm on 9th October 1970 to Tom, a retired IBM executive and Gunilla, a bank worker. As a child, she was a very talented sportswoman. At the age of 12, she switched her interest to golf. As a member of the Swedish National Team, she played in the Amateur Golf team and became the world amateur champion in 1992. Then she moved to United States to attend college at the University of Arizona.
         She achieved her first professional win in 1994 and became the LPGA rookie of the year. In 1995, she won the first Tour title of LPGA at the U.S. women’s open. Six 1997 LPGA titles were won by her restoring the Player of the year titles and the Money List. She made history at the Bank of America Colonial tournament in 2003 as the first women to play in a men’s tournament.
         At a press conference on 13 May 2008, she announced her retirement from active tournaments. She played her last game in December 2008.
          Her other interests include founding a golf academy, products with brand name Annika, instituting a charitable foundation and designing golf courses.
